The European Musk Beetle is “specially protected” because its habitat is shrinking. Gut that we have ideal living conditions for the Musk Beetle.

The Musk Beetle is a European Longhorn Beetle. The Musk Beetle lays its eggs in the bark of softwood, which the larva eats. Since there are less and less people who do basket weaving and more and more areas are drained, the habitat of the Musk Beetle is getting smaller. Because of that the Musk Beetle is “specially protected”. Pollard willows are the ideal habitat for the Musk Beetle. Gut thing we have more than enough of those.
